october favorites
I don´t have a lot of things to share for this month, I started a new job and everything was quite hectic, lots of new things to adjust to, so many new faces, so many names to connect to those faces, new routines, just so many new things, I don´t think I´ve really settled into the job yet as I´m writing this, but I hope I´ll get there soon-ish.
So I didn´t have the time to try out new activities or read much, but as always, I listened to a lot of music especially on my new way to work, managed to watch a few movies and obsessed over the most obvious food item one could obsess over in October, so here´s a shortened but still sweet list of my October favorites.
Feel free to share your personal obsessions in the comments, what music did you listen to, what were the things that shaped you this month? Let me know, I´ll read them all and might draw some inspiration from them!!
HORSES!!!!! by my beloved Patti Smith. The best debut record someone ever put out, in my opinion. I went to Paris this month to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Horses, and hearing all the songs live really changed my perspective on the album, I loved it before, like I said, I think it´s the greatest music debut someone has ever done, but hearing it live was magical. It´s no album to randomly listen to in the background while doing something else, it´s a album to listen to and just listen. I love it, I love Patti and I´m forever grateful I was able to be there and see Patti perform Horses.
If someone would ask me for my favorite album in the whole world, I would struggle a lot to answer said question, and it would depend on the current season of my life as I have a new favorite album every few weeks, but one album that is stable and one of the greatest (and have I mentioned it´s a debut, how can someone be such a genius to put out this debut?) albums of all times. Go listen. But listen and just listen and take in the music. Immerse yourself into the sound. You might end up hating it (I know people who really dislike her music) but if you get it, you might end up with a new favorite album.
Also the cover song of My generation (originally by the Who) is absolutely insane and I love it, I´ve only recently (with that I mean like two weeks ago) started to obsess over it, and even tho it´s a cover, it might actually be one of my favorites of the album. Her energy is incredible. Have I mentioned I fucking love Patti Smith?
Little Miss Sunshine. I have no idea why I never watched Little Miss Sunshine before. I mean, the movie cover is bright yellow (my favorite color) and plays in the early 2000s which is one of my favorite eras of movies being released. So I really don´t know why I never watched it. But when my local cinema brought it back for a night, of course I had to go. I went on my own, wearing pajamas and ordered myself popcorn which I rarely do when going to the movies. I treated it as a little solo date, and had the best time.
It was one of those movies where time passed by so quickly, and when you feel the movie coming towards the end, you really hope the movie won´t end and there will just be one more scene, the way you hope your favorite band will play one more song, just one more, at the end of the concert because you don´t want it to end. I feel like Little Miss Sunshine will become a new comfort movie for me to watch on days where everything feels heavy and I just wanna hide in bed and forget about everything for a bit.
Pumpkin Soup. Of course pumpkin soup, I mean, what else would one obsess over besides pumpkin in October? I ate so much pumpkin soup, I also made pumpkin cake yesterday and it turned out soooo good, also pumpkin gnocchi and I wanted to make pumpkin spiced pancakes which I didn´t end up doing. But I love pumpkins, they are so pretty and every year in October I fall in love with them again.
I love pumpkin I love pumpkin I love pumpkin!!! Next year I have to make pumpkin spiced pancakes.
Also now it´s November, and naturally, like every year, my pumpkin obsession has come to an end. Whenever I buy the first pumpkin of the year, I can´t imagine life without pumpkins when they go out of season, then I eat so much fucking pumpkin and in the end, I can let them go easily, just to fall into another season of pumpkin obsession the next year.
These were a few of my favorites this month - do you wanna share anything you obsessed over this month?
Also, if you haven´t, feel free to go and read my postcard I sent to you from my little trip to Paris.
