My rotten iPhone 8. We´ve been through a lot, I bought this phone second-hand in 2020, so we spent almost all of adulthood together.
So many things are broken on this phone, and still, it works somehow. Barely, but it doesn´t matter.
I can´t make calls or record voice notes without my headphones because the microphone is broken. I can´t use a few apps (such as my health insurance app, for example) because the OS won´t update anymore. My camera was broken (the screen was just black whenever I opened it), but somehow, it recently started working again, which came as a pleasant surprise. I need to charge my phone like 5 times a day, and can´t leave the house without a powerbank. It overheats way too fast. Just to name a few things.
But somehow, I´m attached to this phone. We´ve been through a lot, and as long as she still works, I won´t give her up.
Also, I love how light and small this phone is, I don´t know how I could live with a modern iPhone.
So for now, we’ll stick together. I’ll keep charging her five times a day, carrying around a power bank, and pretending that all those little things that are broken don’t bother me. Anyway, I’m hoping she’ll make it at least another year. Preferably several. I’m not ready to let her go yet. Happily ever after, or something like that.
