On being the algorithm´s bitch

I think we’ve all become a little too submissive to the algorithm. We censor ourselves, carefully choosing our words and structuring everything we post to keep the algorithm happy. At this point, we’re basically little puppies begging for treats. And for what? A few views and likes? I know it´s the modern-day trophy, but if the price is losing yourself and your individuality, that´s nothing I´m willing to pay.

When did we become so desperate to please an algorithm? I don’t remember signing up for this. And yet, here we are, all trying to be the algorithm’s favorite little bitch.

Every video feels like an echo of the ten videos I´ve watched before. It’s bland, it’s boring, it’s all the same, one giant cookie-cutter mix of shit, even though the exact thing that made social media interesting in the first place was different people with different perspectives.

People constantly talk about decentering men; I think we should decenter the fucking algorithm. Men as well, but that´s another conversation. The whole algorithm thing reminds me of people being submissive to their partner, doing everything to please them, only to end up feeling angry because they’ve lost themselves in that relationship. Unfortunately, I know what I´m talking about here, maybe that´s why the algorithm thing triggers me so much.

One of the reasons I LOVE having this corner of the internet is because I´m free to do whatever the fuck I want and be fully myself. I can curse as much as I want to, I can speak the way I want because I don’t have to worry about avoiding certain words. Fuck yeah. I could sit here with my tits out if I wanted to. I probably won´t, but it´s nice to have options. I feel free here, and I´m glad I created a space for myself rather than shrinking myself to fit into existing spaces.

I don´t have to be a version of myself that the algorithm would approve, I can be the way I am. Back in the day, I wanted to be a content creator so badly and wondered why creating content felt so tiring over time. Obviously, pretending to be someone I’m not is exhausting. I know the algorithm doesn´t like me, and since I don´t like it either, it´s all good. I won´t change the way I am to please someone, not for anyone in real life, not for anyone in real life, and especially not for an algorithm.

It´s a fucking machine that we started to worship as if it were God. I mean, what even is the algorithm? What does it look like? It´s not even real, it´s a power play designed by people with way too much money, and we can’t even compete with them.

Here, I can be me. I think that´s quite rare nowadays on the internet. I´ll never be the algorithm´s bitch.
